The seller provided me with the cone numbers: one is 18030 35401-01, the other is not as legible but looks to be the same.
Serial numbers: K126798 12-81, and K126803 12-81
A previous post re 604-168X: http://www.hostboard.com/forums/f700...overs-etc.html
How do these sound compared to other model 604s?
Edit(addition): I have a 416-8B with a correct cone #18030 35400-01 and a 421-8H with a correct cone #35402. In January 1999 Altec listed the 035400 in the recone kits for the 604(8K, 8G, 8H, 16E), the 416-8 and the 515, and #035662 for 515-8GHP, 515-16GHP, 515-8G and 515-16G
Any info on the #35401???????

Your neighbors called. They like your music.
The Ebay seller has added clear pics of the S/Ns and cone numbers.

Some more info. The Altec/Mark lV Repair PartsLlist(March 1, 1996) lists the recone kit #R904/604-8HP for the 604-168X, 604-HPLN and 904-8A LF speakers. This kit has a LF cone described as HI POWER. Unfortunately I have no information re the cone part number for this kit. Other model LF drivers are listed as having a HI POWER cone. Altec may have used one of those cones or come up with one for the 604-168X, specifically. Another Altec mystery, maybe.

Thanks for your replies.

Change the HF frams to all alum, and these are just fine.
Very similar if not exactly the same as the 904-8A.
They don't go much below 70hz but are wonderful with subs.
FWIW, I paid $400 for my mint pair of 904's with x-overs. I think that price is WAY too high and they are too far away.
